Whether you’re a committed Christian, or you haven’t been to church regularly in years, you will most likely want some hymns and contemporary worship songs in your church wedding service. Depending on who you are, there’ll be different criteria to fill (and shortly we’ll be bringing out our ‘old school hymns for weddings’ video and blog!) so our top tips for worship songs in Christian weddings should hopefully cover a range of tastes! 1.) Oceans by Hillsong Worship

“For I am Yours and You are mine.” You might not think this would be a popular choice for weddings but we get asked to sing it at 3 or 4 weddings a year! Starting a married life requires faith for the ups and downs ahead; this song is actually perfect for asking God to equip you to trust Him in the months and years to follow.

2.) Amazing Grace by John Newton

This hymn is popular as it is so well known and yet our version brings a life and energy to it that makes it contemporary and vibrant - it ticks all the boxes for all ages and traditions!

3.) What A Beautiful Name It Is by Hillsong Worship

This is a rousing song packed with truth - it’s perfect for weddings of church-going Christians used to blasting out worship songs with their hands lifted in the air! There is no better day to worship God than on your wedding day.

4.) How Great Is Our God by Chris Tomlin

How Great Is Our God is another really well known song that’s easy to pick up for those who don’t know it - ideal for those weddings with a mix of people, some Christians and some not. The message is clear, the melody is memorable and it causes you to praise - whether a downbeat or an upbeat version.

5.) 10,000 reasons (Bless The Lord, Oh My Soul) by Matt Redman

This worship song has a really catchy chorus with an “I’m going to praise you whatever the weather” type message. Again, this works even if half of your congregation have never heard it, they will probably be able to join in by the third chorus. And for the Christians in the room, 10,000 Reasons always manages to cause people to lift their voice!

6.) The Blessing by Kari Jobe, Cody Carnes and Elevation Worship

The Blessing is such a powerful song based on Numbers 6:24-26, “The Lord bless you and keep you”. The middle 8 section is also extremely poignant, “May his favour be upon you and a thousand generations and your family and their children…” As you are beginning a new life together and often starting a family, the message in this worship song is really fitting. I love it!

7.) The Goodness of God by Bethel Worship

“All my life you have been faithful!” I love this message, especially for those of us who are marrying later in life, or who have dealt with loss before getting married. God is so, so good. And the trusting doesn’t stop when you get married to the love of your life - nope, you need God even more than before ;-)

8.) Shout To The Lord by Hillsong Worship

It’s 30 years old and still as powerful as ever. Shout To The Lord is a good worship song for weddings with a mix of ages, it’s a universally known chorus and yet doesn’t feel in the least bit cheesy.

9.) Blessing and Honour / Ancient Of Days by Ron Kenoly

Blessing and Honour is upbeat, uplifting, it’s great with a band or with an incredible pianist (like our Phil Merriman on this clip). Skip to 2 minutes in to hear our version as part of our Christmas mash up. If your friends and family are the type to get moving, dancing, clapping and whooping in the wedding service, this song is for you!
