Mel and Aaron: the epitome of a joyful wedding

“We wanted JOY to be the thread that ran through our wedding.”

From the time Melissa and Aaron booked us 18 months in advance of their wedding, I knew their wedding was going to be fun. I love December weddings anyway (despite the weather) and when I received their chosen songs, I could tell this was a couple who a) loved music, b) were very comfortable to do exactly what they wanted for their wedding, c) had guests who were also fun, upbeat, energetic people.

The church was on top of a hill overlooking Camberley, Surrey and as it was Advent, it was sparkling with lights throughout. It was stunning! Things started off well when the vicar said she’d been looking forward to hearing us all week - it makes a real difference with the vicar is on board and lovely to boot!

We started the Prelude with our 90s medley - and before we knew it, the whole waiting congregation were singing with us, clapping, clicking and thoroughly enjoying the little gig they were treated to before Mel arrived. The 90s medley is one that consistently surprises people with what comes next, and this congregation was no different - oohing and aahing with each track that came in. We fell in love with our new audience.

Came Here for Love was next - an acoustic, chilled version of the house track by Sigala and Ella Eyre. The melody and the lyrics are beautifully apt for a wedding. You Got The Love followed, with our sneaky mash up of Never Too Much by Luther Vandross, ending with For Once In My Life by Stevie Wonder. The whole set primed the guests that this was a wedding to be celebrated loudly, openly and joyfully!

So the time had come for the bridal entrance. The moment everyone was waiting for, especially Aaron. Having seen the videos, it brought tears to my eyes to see Aaron’s face as Melissa walked towards him! These are the moments we live for! Celebrating love, commitment and life changing decisions. Shania Twain’s ‘From The Moment’ is one of the most popular wedding songs ever, and there’s good reason for it. We shortened our version to 2 minutes long to make it the perfect length for enjoying the moment without any awkward gaps.

Back in September, Mel and Aaron asked if we could sing Joyful Joyful and Give Me Joy In My Heart (Sing Hosanna) for their hymns. Joyful Joyful is THE most joyful song we do, so even if the congregation didn’t know it, I knew we would get them clapping and moving with us (I was right!). Give Me Joy however - we’ve all been at those weddings or church services where it sounds anything but joyful and you’re longing for it to be finished. Especially if it’s in a really high key, right? But I had had the desire to arrange a completely different version of Give My Joy for a while, and here was my opportunity to see what we could do with it, to upgrade it for 2025, bring in some reggae flavours, and leave the congregation feeling refreshed rather than exhausted after singing along! (I know you know what I’m talking about - sometime those old school hymns take all the energy I have!)

I have to give props to Called Out Music for the inspiration - his instagram video of this song started the ball rolling and our pianist, Phil Merriman pushed it along with me too. Here’s our version of Give Me Joy:

My new favourite in our repertoire is Best of My Love by The Emotions, for its energy. It never fails to get people bopping. The couple chose this with our beatbox version of All You Need Is Love for their signing of the register.

To end the most joyful wedding we’ve performed at in a while, our beautiful couple chose another of our absolute favourites, Signed Sealed Delivered. We promise you, this song never gets boring (along with Joyful Joyful and Oh Happy Day!). It has a timeless feel that, no matter if you heard it at every wedding, you wouldn’t mind. It’s always a pleasure to sing.

This is one ceremony I’ll remember for a long time. Weddings are all about people and we felt that we would have a great time partying with you all. I’ll end the blog with the AI definition of ‘Joy’. This wedding was the epitome of it. Melissa and Aaron, thank you for choosing us and we wish you every happiness together.

“Joy is

an intense, deeply felt emotion of profound happiness, contentment, and delight, often arising from meaningful experiences, connections, or spiritual fulfillment. Unlike temporary pleasure, joy is a, lasting state of being that can endure even during difficult times. It is frequently expressed through laughter, celebration, or a deep sense of satisfaction. “

“Get Gospel performed at our wedding in Dec 2025 and it was the best decision we ever made. From the initial email, Jules was so warm and helpful and the packages they offer for weddings are great. The singers on the day were incredible. So many of our guests commented on how amazing the choir was and we couldn’t agree more! I’d highly recommend!”
