About Get Gospel

Who are we?

Get Gospel officially formed in 2011 in London, UK. Each singer is an artist in their own right, bringing their own distinctively creative flavour to the Get Gospel sound. We find ourselves in both familiar and unusual places, from weddings to corporate events, award ceremonies to studio sessions, adverts and parties to festivals and funerals.

We pride ourselves in creative arrangements that bring an up-to-date feel to amazing music from the last 5 decades, without losing the timeless energy that great singing provides.

Meet the girls…

Jules Rendell is Get Gospel’s founder and one of their arrangers. Her backing vocal credits include Gorillaz, Beverly Knight, Paul Carrack, Keane and Aled Jones. She is a songwriter and artist in her own right and having released four EPs. You can find her on iTunes and YouTube and more than likely at a gig drinking champagne or tea and eating cake.

Emily Holligan is an in demand backing vocalist and arranger, currently working with Michael Kiwanuka and Rag’N’Bone Man, having previously sung with (among many others) Candi Staton, Blur, Jocelyn Brown, Pixie Lott, Plan B and the great Stevie Wonder himself – not that our humble Emily would tell you herself! Watch her sing At Last here.

Bianca Rose is a talented singer-song writer and guitarist with a soul-folk style impossible to ignore. She has just released her first album, ‘No Fear Here‘. Watch one of her mesmorising performances on YouTube.

Kirsten Ellington is a versatile and super talented vocalist, singing teacher and mum, singing both soprano and alto with GG when she’s not singing backing vocals for her hubby Jaz! She’s also sung with The Feeling, Noah And The Whale, performed with Pharrell at the Brits 2014 and her studio work includes Tom Jones among others.

Grace Mitchell. We love keeping it in the family, and Grace, being sister to Emily and wife to Riccardo, is not only a busy session vocalist, backing the likes of Muyiwa and Riversongz,  but also a nurse and mum-extraordinaire to three. She adds her powerful vocals to the alto section!

Loretta Andrews is a radio presenter and producer on Premier Christian Radio, mother to Ru, creator of the More Than A Mum blog and as if she has any more time on her hands, one third of pop band Sugarfoot! Buy their new EP ‘Taste’ on iTunes.

Lizzie Deane is the latest addition to the Get Gospel family and has possibly the biggest voice to have ever come out of a white girl! Having worked with Boy George, Mica Paris, Pee Wee Ellis and Belinda Carlisle, as well as a busy solo career, we’re honoured to have her musicality, sassy voice and gorgeous personality in the ranks.

Mercy Smartt is a soprano who has sung in backing choirs for acts including Madonna, Westlife and Stevie Wonder.
She has also toured the UK, Europe, USA and Canada with the gospel group Muyiwa and Riversongz – check out her amazing lead vocals with Muyiwa on this YouTube video!

Esther Adjepong is a graduate of the the BRIT School and Los Angeles’ Musician’s Institute. A classically trained vocalist but most at home with gospel and soul, she has a versatile singing style. From performing in operas such as Carmen and La Boheme to singing with Tony Bennet and Bobby McFerrin to name a few, her vocals add beauty to our sound.

Meet the guys…

James Philip is a songwriter, producer, proud father and incredible vocalist who has worked with the likes of Tony Momrelle, Kelly Rowland and Jocelyn Brown. Having toured the country in a Ratpack show impressing crowds as Sammy Davies Jr, he’s now fronting funk band, Speedometer and we’re glad to have him as our lead tenor in Get Gospel. Click to hear his songs and watch on YouTube.

Billy Boothroyd is an accomplished singer, beatboxer and writer who joined Get Gospel in 2012. One of the best beatboxers in the country, he’s also a session vocalist with a phenomenal CV, having performed with the likes of Gareth Malone, Labrinth, Jarvis Cocker, Vanessa Carlton, Imogen Heap, Get Cape-Wear Cape-Fly, The Guillemots, and travels aplenty with Shlomo’s Vocal Orchestra. Watch him here.

James Francis‘s innovative vocal style has even our jaws dropping during performances. A true tenor, James could riff for England! When he isn’t singing with us, he travels with The Kingdom choir and with artists such as JP Cooper, Sarah Brighton, Samuel Ljungblahd.

Ricardo Mitchell, another incredible riffing tenor in the ranks, but also beat boxer and prolific songwriter. His backing vocal credits include the incredible Jocelyn Brown and Michael Kiwanuka. Check Riccy out on YouTube and iTunes, you won’t be disappointed.

Kenny Temowo started his singing career performing with the Shekinah singers and Riversongz. He’s a bit of a musical genius and shares his many musical gems as a teacher in south London, as well as gracing Bianca Rose’s performances on guitar. Well, he would have to, seen as she’s his wife! Check out his music here on YouTube.

Matt Featherstone is a professional flautist by day and super funky singer, beatboxer and arranger by night! Matt grew up in France and moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he became a fellow. He is now principal flute of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales but still has time to sing with us, having also worked with Kwabs, Shlomo and the vocal orchestra, Bobby McFerrin and Natalie Williams . Check out this YouTube video to sample his amazing style.

Pete Billington is a multi instrumentalist, composer, arranger, musical director and general fantastic man. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music and is most known for his presence on the London jazz scene playing piano and double bass with Clark Tracey, Zoe Rahman, Ben Castle, and the Pendulum Jazz Orchestra. Along with his own trio and octet and touring with the likes of Michael Ball, we wonder he has time to play with us and arrange some of our tunes!

Ricardo Castro is another of our baritone/beat boxers. He has toured with various theatre productions such as Sister Act, Fame, Aladdin and Legally Blonde the Musical as well as being backing vocalist for George Ezra on his first tour. In between theatre and session work Ricardo has done various commercial modeling and dance jobs for brands like Wella and Vidal Sassoon. Check out a snippet of him here.

Meshach Spooner is our newest male addition, with raspy soul vocals and beat boxing rhythm to match the best. A talented pianist as well as singer, he writes his own instrumental music alongside singing with us. Here’s a snippet of those old school vocals!
